Grottaglie is a land of excellent wine. It became famous for its craftsman production of ceramics. Grottaglie was born on the Xth century, when the inhabitants started to leave their houses in the ravine. The most ancient ceramic shops are still located in charming caves. Around the castle rises the Ceramic Neighbourhood. The castle was built by the Bishops of Tarantoin the XIVth century.

The historical center of Grottaglie has a medieval and baroque imprint. The Mother church dates from the XI-XIIth centuries, but its facade was rebuilt at the end of the XIVth century. The ravine contains the Sanctuary of Santa Maria Mutata which was built over a small basilian construction.

The expo-market, which celebrates its ceramics, takes place at Christmas and during summertime.
